The Trial of the Chicago 7 | Official Teaser Trailer | Netflix Film

Written and directed by Academy Award®-Winner Aaron Sorkin starring Sacha Baron Cohen, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Frank Langella, Eddie Redmayne, Mark Rylance, Jeremy Strong, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Michael Keaton, John Carroll Lynch and Alex Sharp.

What was intended to be a peaceful protest at the 1968 Democratic National Convention turned into a violent clash with police and the National Guard. The organizers of the protest—including Abbie Hoffman, Jerry Rubin, Tom Hayden and Bobby Seale—were charged with conspiracy to incite a riot and the trial that followed was one of the most notorious in history.

This looks promising. Strong cast. Great to see Sacha Baron Cohen flexing his dramatic chops.
Boy, sure glad we don't live in those times any more...

I was a background extra for this for 6 days and it was a wild experience. I was in grant park booked as a student protestor. I was in the audience when Eddie Redmayne says “get on the streets, get on the streets!”

"Give me a moment would you friend, never been on trial for my thoughts before." Literal chills
I have never been on trial for my thoughts before.
Cohen nailed it.

You know the Seattle 7? That was my uncle. Well, him and 6 other guys. He also helped write the Port Huron Statement. The original, not the compromised second draft. After that he bounced around, did this and that. Worked in the music industry for a little while. Roadie for Metallica. Speed of Sound Tour. Bunch of assholes, apparently.

You had me at Aaron Sorkin and Eddie Redmayne. Seriously, Redmayne earned an Oscar for a damn good reason and he's barely IN anything!

I was a courtroom protestor and photojournalist; we filmed in November and December 2019 here in New Jersey. This film shall serve as a testament to the handsome tax incentives of filming on the east coast in the metropolitan suburbs. The courtroom is (technically) part of Community Baptist Church of Love in Paterson, and the town hall is the City Hall of Newark (NJ). The first shot is a crowd sim, courtesy of Brainstorm Digital led by one of my old professors.

Can't wait!
So glad to see SBC doing this type of work. He’s such an amazing talent.

This is a message that needed to be retold at this time in our history.
Never been a better period for a show like this. Hope its as good as its looks. Sasha can do anything, One of the best actor alive, an actor in the true sense of the word.

Judy Woodruff
Judy Woodruff:
Swept away by this production and by the performances. And i can’t stand Eddie Redmayne and he was terrific. Anyone with a speaking part was. But I dare you to take your eyes and ears off the screen when Sasha Baron Cohen is on. He’s a tremendous actor and his presence just grabs you by the kidneys and won’t let go. And no, I didn’t like Borat at all. I liked the TV show he had before the Borat films. But I thought the Borat movies helped encourage and validate antiSemitic hateful thinking. But it was still obvious he was a tremendously intelligent and powerful actor who doesn’t chew the scenery to get your attention (none of the actors do. Michael Keaton and J Gordon Levittown, plus the guy who played David Dellinger and Also Tom Hayden’s best friend whose name i can’t recall and sweet Fred Hampton - all of them shined so brightly without a single diva turn.
Keep any cans or rocks away from your viewing area because when you watch Judge Hoffman in action you may be tempted (seriously) to start throwing things at your screen. What a horrible man - played perfectly by Frank Langella. Langella, who was a hot young vision of beauty as a young actor and now isn’t afraid many years later to portray Judge Hoffman as he was. You’ll have to watch to find out how he plays it but “ vision of beauty” won’t be a phrase you’ll be using, IDT.
Looks like Netflix has another winner on their hands.

Let me get something off my chest everybody always knows Sacha Baron Cohen as BORAT but this man is totally underrated and his acting skills I would have loved to see him as Freddie Mercury as opposed to the other guy he would have killed it

Saw it today and can recommend it wholeheartedly. It is a superb film. It is serious and competent, but also easy to watch, meaning it welcomes you very nicely into the world and makes you acquainted with the characters. It has a really good flow to it.
