Park Won-soon: Guards, Journalists Gather in Seoul After Missing Mayor Found Dead

Police say the body of the missing mayor of South Korea’s capital, Seoul, has been found.

They say Park Won-soon’s body was located in hills in northern Seoul early on Friday, more than seven hours after they launched a massive search for him.

Park’s daughter had called police on Thursday afternoon to report him missing, saying he had given her a “will-like” message before leaving home.

News reports say one of Park’s secretaries had lodged a complaint with police on Wednesday night over alleged sexual harassment.

About 300-400 officers and a drone were mobilized in the search, according to police.

Kim Ji-hyeong, a Seoul Metropolitan Government official, said Park had not shown up for work on Thursday for unspecified reasons and had cancelled all of his schedule, including a meeting with a presidential official at his Seoul City Hall office.

The Seoul-based SBS television network reported that one of Park’s secretaries had lodged a complaint with police on Wednesday night over alleged sexual harassment, such as unwanted physical contact that began in 2017. The SBS report, which didn’t cite any source, said the secretary told police investigators that an unspecified number of other female employees at Seoul City Hall had suffered similar sexual harassment by Park.

MBC television carried a similar report.

Both the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency and Park's office said they couldn't confirm the reports.

Park, a long-time civic activist and human rights lawyer, was elected Seoul mayor in 2011. He became the city’s first mayor to be voted into a third term in June last year. A member of President Moon Jae-in’s liberal Democratic Party, he has been considered a potential presidential candidate in 2022 elections.

Park has mostly maintained his activist colours as mayor, criticizing what he described as the country’s growing social and economic inequalities and corrupt ties between large businesses and politicians.

Early on, Park established himself as a fierce opponent of former conservative President Park Geun-hye and openly supported the millions of people who flooded the city's streets in late 2016 and 2017, calling for her ouster over a corruption scandal.

Park Geun-hye was formally removed from office in March 2017 and is currently serving a decades-long prison term on bribery and other charges.

Seoul, a city of 10 million people, has been a new centre of the coronavirus outbreak in South Korea since the country eased its rigid social distancing rules in early May. Authorities are struggling to trace contacts amid surges in cases linked to nightclubs, church services, a huge e-commerce warehouse and door-to-door sellers in Seoul.

Park Won-soon led an aggressive anti-virus campaign, shutting down thousands of nightspots and banning rallies in major downtown streets.

Hi everyone, I'm a Seoulite so I'll try to break this story down for y'all. Mayor Park was days away from being questioned by the police after a former female member of his staff filed charges against him for sexual harassment. He left a cryptic message for his daughter hinting at his suicidal intentions before heading off to a local mountain alone where he off-ed himself. The allegations made against him by his female staff date back to '15. This is just the first time anyone spoke up and went to the police. What is truly baffling is, this man is the 3rd most influential person in S. Korean politics, and his supporting base has always been...get this...women! He had unwavering support from young Korean women for his work in civil cases, becoming the first lawyer in the South Korean court system to successfully sue an employer for sexual harassment. Circumstantial evidence suggests that he chose the quick and easy way out rather than to live through the humiliation and the theatrics of a public trial. All eyes are now on South Korean President Moon, as the deceased Park was a close political ally of Moon. Will the sitting president of S.Korea attend the funeral of a man who was mere days away from being the subject of a police investigation for sexual misconduct? Or will he display discretion and wait until these allegations are verified? (Korean funerals are generally a 3 day event that begins on the day of the actual death)
July 10th Update :
Seoul City hall just released a beautiful eulogy of the late mayor highlighting his former accomplishments. They also requested the media to refrain from releasing speculative articles in respect for the deceased (as the accused can no longer stand trial against his accuser). Seoul City Hall is currently organizing a 5 day memorial service for the fallen mayor.
As details regarding the allegations against the deceased mayor continues to come into light, one must wonder if city hall has even considered the possibility that they may be hosting this grand memorial event to honor a man who is suspected of being a predator. Many are left shocked as the disconnect between public perception and city hall becomes ever more apparent.
The woman who filed for these sexual harassment charges is a former Seoul City Hall employee herself, saying that it is disheartening to see her former colleague's actions following Park's abrupt demise would be an understatement. Her former co-workers are actively deifying their boss who took his own life rather than facing down his accuser, but they won't stick up for one of their own?
It is a sad day as a Seoulite, and as an expecting father of a baby girl, to see this is how my tax dollars are being put to work.

What on earth was that video clip? Useless. Sounds like he probably committed suicide due to the allegations. That's not super unusual over there in cases like this. It's a shame all the way around. Ok simple. That's the last place the mayor stayed before he goes to commit suicide to mountain in Seoul. That is why the video shows the place!
The mayor moved out from the place in the video, then he just directly went to the mountain. There is no any fact about the reason he committed suicide, but some people says that that he is dead because of his guilty of sexual assault.

here is an image that people who have noticed something in Korea will die, but in South Korea, isn't it a country where someone else has a lot of control?
I'm more likely to have received a group stalker from people from a music company that has the biggest connections with Korea in Japan, and I'm not safe now.
They also have strong ties to the police. I felt despair and loneliness. But even before that, I was experiencing a mass stalker when I was pursuing fraudulent claims from Japanese dental personnel. At that time, the scale was smaller than that of people involved in music, but I was very scared because I was followed while pushing the stroller.
With that experience, I was able to improve my anger control, but I was often filled with sadness.
We must see and awaken from all perspectives.

Seoul Mayor Park Won Soon is visiting Beijing, China, from November 1 to 4 to attend a meeting of the 21st Century Council, where he joined discussions on China’s economy, society, and development strategies.

At this meeting, over 20 members of the 21st Century Council, including Mayor Park, and more than 10 former government officials, businessmen, and scholars participated in five discussion sessions. Moreover, on November 3, all participants of the 21st Century Council had a face-to-face talk with Chinese President Xi Jinping at the Great Hall of the People.

The themes of the five sessions of the meeting, held over a period of two nights and three days, were: ① China’s 13th Five-Year Plan and Economic Strategy, ② China’s Regional Development Strategy, ③ China’s 13th Five-Year Plan and the Strengthening of Reforms in Accordance with Constitutionalism, ④ China’s 13th Five-Year Plan and “One Belt, One Road” Initiative, and ⑤ China’s 13th Five-Year Plan and Global Governance.

On November 4, the last day of his visit, Mayor Park Won Soon will meet with Beijing Mayor Wang Anshun and come to an agreement on strengthening practical exchanges and cooperation between Seoul and Beijing in terms of economic, cultural, and environmental issues through the Seoul-Beijing Joint Council. In particular, at the “Forum on Air Quality Improvement,” the two mayors will search for ways in which both cities may cooperate on the development of technologies to improve air quality. Also, at the Central Party School of the Communist Party of China, an official institution tasked with discovering, fostering, and re-educating important executives of the Chinese Communist Party, Mayor Park will give a special lecture titled “Seoul’s Governance and Urban Innovation.”

“China’s impact on Seoul’s economy is significant, as Chinese travelers account for the majority of tourists visiting Seoul and the country is the largest export partner for our businesses,” explained Mayor Park. He added, “Through this 21st Century Council meeting, I hope to learn more about China and use this knowledge to make good decisions for the future of Seoul. I will also participate in the discussions and talk about how China’s development will contribute to peace on the Korean Peninsula and in Greater East Asia.”

Korea is currently in an unprecedented economic crisis.
The UK's economic research institute EIU lowered Korea's economic growth this year from 2.2% to -1.8%. Moody's and Bloomberg also say Korea has been in a difficult situation since the 2008 financial crisis.
The problem is not that the economy is simply bad.
Korea is a country that mainly feeds and lives.
The import volume in March 2020 was 42,092,469000 doller, and the export volume in March 2020 was 46,268,617000 doller.
However, two-quarters of imports and exports are traded with the United States and China.
So far, Korea has been eating and eating between the United States and China.
But after Donald Trump became president, the relationship between the United States and China worsened.
South Korea's President Moon Jae-in said Japan must apologize and compensate the victims who were raped by Japanese soldiers during World War II.
Japan said
'In 1965, we will apologize to President Park Chung-hee for 1 billion yen, and we will apologize.
And he signed an agreement with President Park Chung-hee, and Prime Minister Abe apologized before.
I tried to give you compensation in 2015, but didn't you refuse?
So Japan said
South Korea in the Supreme Court asked Japanese troubled companies to reimburse victims for 100 million won.
Go and become'WHITE LIST' case, so in Korea
Presidents, politicians, businessmen and even ordinary citizens
And don't buy it, and the Japanese campaigned to get out of Korea.
Korea is a country that lives with'export' as its core.
Also, semiconductors, automobiles, and ships are the main businesses.
However, they relied on Japan for the parts needed to make the product.
Japan tightened regulations on Korea.
Eventually, Korea later asked Japan for reconciliation.
However, the damage was severe.
